Meet the Team: MaryAnn Cimino Shinn

Built for This Work From the Very Beginning

Some people find their calling. MaryAnn Cimino Shinn was born into hers.

When Wilma and John Cimino founded CiminoCare in 1988, MaryAnn, along with her brother Mark grew up in the communities, helping her mother care for residents who, over time, became family. That formative experience didn’t just shape her character. It became the foundation of an entire career.

Today, MaryAnn serves as co-owner, Principal, and Regional Director of CiminoCare, overseeing the company’s original San Francisco and Peninsula communities and serving as a member of the Board of Directors, helping guide the company through a period of substantial growth.

What makes her story compelling isn’t just longevity it is its range. Throughout the years, MaryAnn has worked in many different positions across management, marketing, and operations, and has been solely responsible for building the company’s corporate marketing program. She has also helped shape Quality Assurance efforts and served as Operations Manager with the kind of multi-role fluency that only comes from genuinely caring about every corner of the business.

Before joining CiminoCare full-time, she brought social services and marketing expertise to the skilled nursing and assisted living divisions of a CCRC in Portland, Oregon, rounding out her perspective with experience beyond the family enterprise.

Academically, MaryAnn earned her B.A. from San Francisco State University and her M.A. from The College of Notre Dame, obtaining a combination of practical grounding and graduate-level rigor that informs how she thinks about care, culture, and community.

At the heart of it, MaryAnn Cimino Shinn represents something increasingly rare in senior living: an operator who has never lost sight of why the work matters. The residents aren’t a portfolio. They’re people, and for MaryAnn, they always have been.
